Conservative MP Nigel Evans arrested on suspicion of rape
May 5 , 2013
UK Conservative MP Nigel Evans was arrested on Saturday for alleged rape and sexual assault on two men. Evans has currently been released on bail. The alleged offenses are reported to have taken place between July 2009 and March 2013 when the victims were in their twenties.
The 55-year-old MP for Ribble Valley was elected deputy speaker in 2010. Later in December that year, he declared himself to be gay and said he was tired of living a lie. A by-election in the constituency may see a further strengthening of support for UK Independence Party (UKIP) and attrition for the Conservative Party.
