January 15 , 2015
Colombia’s President Juan Manuel Santos said the government was ready to begin talks on a ceasefire with the Farc rebel group, according to media reports.
He indicated that negotiators would start discussions soon and described the recent unilateral ceasefire declared by the rebels as a “step in the right direction."
Peace talks between the two sides have been going on in Cuba for more than two years.
Santos said peace was at hand and the time was ripe to “make it a reality for us [and] our children.”
