Colombia to halt bombing raids against Farc rebels for a month

  • In a further boost to the peace process, Colombian government has decided to cease bombing raids against the Farc rebel group for a month.

President Juan Manuel Santos said that this step was being taken as the ceasefire declared by the rebels was holding.

However, operations against the National Liberation Army, another guerrilla organization, would continue.

The government and Farc rebels are holding peace negotiations in Cuba.

The conflict in the South American country has claimed more than 200,000 lives in the past 50 years.
