City Councilor considered 'too hot' for Iranian politics

  • Nina Siahkali Moradi has been denied a city council seat at the last minute. A senior Qazvin official mentioned that they don't require a "catwalk model on the council." According to a human rights group, Moradi's pro-youth campaign posters could have resulted in complaints from conservative rivals.

It is being said that her votes were nullified since the review board wasn't satisfied with her credentials. However, Moradi mentioned the board hasn't even spoken to her. According to an expert, it is illegal for the board to disqualify her in this manner after the election.

The new Iranian President has been attempting to improve the rights of women in the country. Hassan Rowhani said "I will form a women's affairs ministry to return their trampled rights to them."
