Chinese mine owner kills himself, 17 miners still trapped

  • Rescuers are trying to reach out to 17 miners who are trapped for two days in a gypsum mine in Shandong province in China. Meanwhile, the owner of the mine drowned himself by jumping into a mine well early on Sunday, local media reports said. The motive of Ma Congbo, who is the chairman of Yurong company, is not clear. However, reports suggest that the Chinese authorities have toughened punishment of employers who are negligent. The mine collapsed on Friday killing one person; however, four miners managed to escape.
