Chinese hospitals request female virgin blood
September 17 , 2013
A Chinese cancer hospital has specifically asked for blood from a 100 female virgins between the ages of 18 to 24.
The Peking University mentioned that female virgins are less likely to have the HPV virus and that they need the blood to do a study on the same.
A hospital spokesman said "it's in line with international practice to collect female virgins' blood samples, which serve as negative control substances in HPV research, given that the risk of contracting HPV is low among women who have never had sex."
However, some users on Twitter questioned the logic behind this and said things such as "Male virgins are not needed, just females, how is this science?" The country's emphasis on virginity has been attacked as well. Men look for brides that are virgins and virginity "restoring" surgeries are becoming increasingly popular.
The hospital spokesman said the institution will work on its communication skills in case it needs to make such a request in the future.
