Chinese doctor admits to selling babies
January 1 , 2014
A Chinese doctor has admitted to court that she told parents their child had congenital issues and convinced them to give their babies up.
Zhang Shuxia, who was locally respected, sold seven babies to human traffickers including one pair of twins. Reports suggest that six stolen babies have been rescued whereas one of them died in April.
The doctor was caught when a mother reported her to the police after suspecting that her baby had been abducted. Turns out, Zhang had taken the infant home to sell to man for $3,600. He bought the baby the same night and sold him in central China for $9,900.
A number of other suspects have been detained and Zhang faces the death penalty.
