Chinese couple forced into late-term abortion face harassment
June 27 , 2012
The husband of a Chinese woman forced to have a late-term abortion has gone into hiding and her family are being harassed, according to a relative.
Feng Jianmei was made to terminate her pregnancy at seven months as she was unable to pay the fine for violating China's one-child policy.
Photos showing her lying next to the foetus on a hospital bed caused worldwide condemnation after they were leaked on the Internet.
A relative of theirs told reporters that the family had been harassed since leaving the hospital, suggesting local government officials embarrassed by the scandal had encouraged it.
She added Feng's husband Deng Jiyuan had gone into hiding on Sunday.
