China stops Shenzhen residents' unlimited entry to Hong Kong

  • China has stopped issuing multiple entry visas to Shenzhen residents for entering Hong Kong, media reports say.

The move comes after growing frustration in Hong Kong over the mainlanders’ shopping trips fueled by lower taxes.

According to the new rules, residents of Shenzhen can now enter Hong Kong only once a week and are not allowed to stay longer than one week.

Many visitors do bulk purchases of household items, which they then re-sell on the other side of the border, though this is illegal.
