China: One killed, nine injured in explosion at chemical plant

  • One person was killed and at least nine injured in an explosion at a chemical plant in the eastern Chinese province of Shandong, reports say.

It took firemen about five hours to bring the blaze, triggered by the blast in Huantai, under control.

The incident comes just two weeks after the blasts in Tianjin that killed more than 100 people, and raises further questions about China’s industrial safety record.

The explosion at Huantai occurred at a plant belonging to the Runxing Chemical company.
