China: 'Misunderstanding' over documentary led to tour members' arrest
July 19 , 2015
A misunderstanding over a documentary film watched by members of a tour group to China led to their arrests, reports say.
The 20-member tour comprising British, South African and Indian nationals is believed to have watched a film about Mongol ruler Genghis Khan in their hotel room.
Local Chinese officials reportedly mistook the film for a terrorist video, according to a representative of two of the travelers.
While the Chinese police have offered no comment on the case, no charges were brought and all 20 tour members have since been deported.
