China executes mining tycoon Liu Han for 'mafia-style crime'

  • China has executed Liu Han, a powerful mining tycoon based in Sichuan, the state media reported.

    Liu Han, the ex-chairman of the Hanlong Group, was sentenced to death last year for leading “mafia-style crime and murder". His brother Liu Wei and three aides have also been executed.  

    Liu is said to have links to Zhou Yongkang, the former security chief who is facing a probe.

    Hanlong has multiple interests in industries such as mining, chemicals and telecommunications.
