China Displays COVID-19 Vaccine at Beijing Trade Fair for the First Time

  • For the first time, China displays its homegrown Coronavirus vaccine, produced by Chinese companies Sinovac Biotech and Sinopharm. Though neither has hit the market yet, the makers are hopeful for complete approval after the necessary phase 3 trials as early as year-end. The spokesperson of Sinovac said that the AFP firm has already "completed the construction of a vaccine factory" able to produce 300 million doses a year. On Monday, people at the Beijing trade fair crowded around the booths showing the vaccine. The move is believed to be a reconstruction of the COVID-19 narrative that started in China and faced lots of foreign criticism over the pandemic's early handling. China'sChina's potential vaccine is amongst ten worldwide to enter phase 3 trials, which is the last step of regulatory approval. As per China's nationalistic tabloid Global Times, "the vaccines' price will not be high." Over 5.7 billion doses of vaccines are under development around the world and have been pre-ordered. However, the World Health Organization (WHO) says that widespread immunization against COVID-19 may not come until the mid of next year.
