China: Blast at paraxylene chemical plant injures three
April 7 , 2015
A blast at a chemical plant in China’s southeastern Fujian province sparked a fire and injured at least three people, media reports said.
The blast took place at the Zhangzhou plant, which manufactures paraxylene or PX, a chemical that catches fire easily and is used for making plastics and polyester.
Construction of PX plants has led to protests in China in the past, including one in Guangdong province last year. Many people are fearful of the harmful and polluting effects of PX plants.
