Chile: Pinochet's secret police chief sentenced again; jail term increases to 505 years
May 21 , 2015
Manuel Contreras, the secret police chief of Chile’s former dictator Augusto Pinochet, has been handed another 15-year sentence.
He is already serving a term of 490 years in prison for violating human rights; that has now increased to 505 years.
Contreras headed the notorious Dina intelligence service that ran torture centers, responsible for the killing of hundreds of people.
Pinochet, who died in 2006 aged 91, did not face a complete trial for all the crimes that were committed during his 17-year dictatorship.
