Chile: 2,600 Fresh Cases Recorded in Single Day, Mandatory Lockdown Imposed for Seven Days

  • As per fresh reports by the Health Ministry of Chile, the country recorded 2,660 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday. The number is considered as the highest single-day jump since the pandemic began. Chile's total number of cases stands at 34,381, and 346 fatalities have been reported so far. Jaime Manalich said that the spike prompted the authorities to send the capital of Santiago and its surrounding areas under a seven-day mandatory lockdown. Further, after a member of the media tested positive, all press staff assigned to the Presidential Palace of La Moneda have been asked to self-isolate for 14 days.
