Catalonian Independence Voting Starts, Spanish Police Try to Disrupt Voting
October 1 , 2017
Catalan President Carles Puigdemont led pro-sovereignty regional government has said that around 60 per cent of the 5.3 million eligible voters is expected to cast their votes in the October 1 referendum on independence from Spain. Catalonia's independence referendum has started today morning amid chaos as Spanish police is attempting to prevent the vote. The crackdown started after Spain’s constitutional court declared the concerned voting illegal. Reports say police has started disrupting the polling process by seizing ballot boxes and papers, followed by blocking voters from entering polling stations. However, pro-independence Catalans started forming queues today before dawn.
