Catalonia to vote for 'independence'; Spain says it is illegal
September 20 , 2014
Catalonia’s parliament has passed a law that would lead to a non-binding vote on independence in November, after realizing that it could not look to the Scottish vote as an example to emulate.
However, Spain’s prime minister Mariano Rajoy has said the planned vote is illegal.
Artur Mas, the Catalan President, said Scotland’s rejection of independence was not a blow to Catalonia’s secessionist ambitions, and what residents of the region wanted was “the chance to vote” like Scotland.
