CAR Rebels Advance
December 27 , 2012
The UN is evacuating non-essential staff and dependents from the Central African Republic as rebels were reported to be advancing towards the capital, Bangui. The US has urgently asked its nationals to leave the country. While the residents of the capital seems to be near panic, a spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said that he "condemns the armed attacks on several towns in the Central African Republic perpetrated by the coalition of rebel groups”. The ceasefire negotiated by the UN does not seem to hold and the rebels have been sending contradictory signals while failing to desist from violence, the UN said.
