May 4 , 2019
Canadian government has vowed to defend the business interests of its companies in Cuba after the United States lifted a ban on American citizens wanting to file lawsuits against companies that worked on the island nation. A Canadian foreign ministry statement made it clear that their government will always defend the Canadian citizens as well as their business interests related to their “trade and investment with Cuba”. The statement also said that the foreign ministry is currently in the process to review “all options in response to the US decision”. Reports say European and Canadian companies are the main foreign investors in communist Cuba. The Canadian foreign ministry statement noted that they “will also continue to work with our international partners, including the EU, to stand up for our businesses”.
