Calbuco volcano erupts in Chile, 1500 evacuated

At least 1,500 people were evacuated in southern Chile, after the Calbuco volcano erupted. As per media reports, the volcano sent plume of smoke several feet high and also blanketed the city of Puerto Montt. An alert has been sounded in the nearby town of Puerto Varas and emergency measures have also been put in place for the Argentinean city of Bariloche, which is located just 100 km away from Calbuco. The volcano has erupted for the first time in more than four decades.
