Burkina Faso: Coup leader Gilbert Diendéré in custody
October 2 , 2015
General Gilbert Diendéré, who had seized power for several days in Burkina Faso, has been taken in to custody.
Diendéré had stepped down after a week in power following last month’s coup in the African country. He later called upon his supporters to lay down their arms and said he was ready to surrender.
The government has promised a fair trial for Diendéré and his aides within the presidential guard, who had arrested the interim president Michel Kafando on September 16, triggering the coup.
