Britons evacuated from Libya as fighting continues
August 4 , 2014
A Royal Navy ship has evacuated British nationals from Tripoli as fighting between rival militias rages on in the Libyan capital.
The group was taken safely to Malta by the HMS Enterprise, which was diverted towards Libya to carry out the rescue mission, Britain’s defense ministry said. Michael Fallon, the defense secretary, thanked the crew of HMS Enterprise “for their support and professionalism” in carrying out the mission.
The operation comes after the UK shut its embassy in Libya in view of the intensified fighting in the capital.
