A young doctor who traveled from Britain to treat civilians in Syria died under mysterious circumstances after being held in custody for over a year.
According to the official story, surgeon Abbas Khan committed suicide in his cell but the British Foreign Office doesn't buy it. His brother mentioned that Abbas knew he was going to be released at the end of the week and was looking forward to coming home. His mother said he had lost substantial amount of weight and showed signs of torture when she visited him.
Reports suggest that the UK is asking for an investigation. "There is no excuse whatsoever for the treatment that he has suffered by the Syrian authorities who have in effect murdered a British national who was in their country to help people who were injured during their civil war," Foreign Office Minister said.
