Breivik trial ends with walkout by victims' families
June 23 , 2012
The trial of self-confessed mass killer Anders Behring Breivik has ended in Oslo with a walkout by families of victims in protest at his attempts to justify the massacre.
As Breivik took the stand to explain why he had killed 77 people and injured 242 last July, around 30 people left the courtroom.
On July 22, he bombed government buildings in the Norwegian capital and later shot young Labour Party supporters at an island camp.
Breivik justified his attacks by saying they were required to stop the "Islamization" of Norway.
Judges will deliver their verdict on August 24. The prosecution is asking for Breivik to be deemed insane.
