Breaching Uranium Enrichment Limit to Result in Further Sanctions for Iran
July 8 , 2019
On Sunday, July 7, 2019 in a combined news conference that took place in Tehran, Iran announced that the limits set on uranium enrichment will be broken. The landmark deal of 2015 signed with the European countries related to nuclear ambitions is set to be breached. Behrouz Kamalvandi, the spokesman of Atomic Energy Organization (ATO), along with Ali Rabiei, the spokesman of the Iranian Government and Abbas Araghchi, Foreign Minister marked their presence at the press conference. Abbas Araghchi, in one of his statements, clarified that Iran still wants to restore the deal but European countries are not able to live up to their expectations, therefore they have failed in their commitments. In 2018, US unilaterally withdrew from this agreement and thereby created a crisis. This had a negative impact on the Iranian economy. Additionally, Mike Pompeo, US Secretary of State, has now said that this will lead to further sanctions and isolation for Iran.
