Brazil's President Cancels Trip to the USA
May 4 , 2019
Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has reportedly cancelled his planned trip to the US after eruption of prostests from the environmental campaigners as well as gay rights activists. He was scheduled to attend a ceremony in New York, organized by the Brazilian-American Chamber of Commerce. While announcing Bolsonaro’s cancellation of his scheduled US trip, his spokesperson General Otavio Rego Barros blamed the “pressure of interest groups” as well as the New York Mayor Bill de Blasio. Sponsors of the dinner event such as management consultancy Bain & Co, Financial Times newspaper, and Delta Airlines pulled out of the event after it was learnt that Bolsonaro will be awarded person of the year award during the event. Non-profit, non-governmental Brazilian-American Chamber of Commerce scheduled to hold the gala dinner later in May 2019.
