Brazilian President Lula Can Face 12 Years in Jail

  • Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the former President of Brazil, has been ruled by Supreme court to spend a large amount of time behind the bars. He is charged with the case of accepting a bribe and is facing 12 years in the jail. However, according to the ruling, he can remain free while appealing for his case. Lula, on the other hand, defends his case stating that the charges are politically motivated to prevent him from running for the presidential race in October. A poll even suggests he is among the top candidate in the race. His party workers termed the unfortunate ruling as a tragic day for both Brazil and democracy.
