Brazil: Six injured in clashes after police try to evict residents
June 4 , 2015
At least six people were injured as residents clashed with police trying to evict them from their homes close to an under-construction Rio Olympic Games stadium in Brazil.
The incident occurred at Vila Autódromo on an edge of the Olympic Park.
While most of the residents in the area have moved after they were offered compensation, the remaining community members are unwilling to give up their homes for a spectacular event that won’t even last a month, they say.
The mayor’s office said that the residents pelted stones at the officers and government staff and injured four guards.
