Brazil: President Rousseff cuts her salary, reshuffles cabinet

  • Brazil’s president Dilma Rousseff has slashed her own salary by 10%, reshuffled her cabinet and cut down eight ministries in a bid to control the deepening crisis affecting the government and country.

Rousseff hopes the steps will at least ward off the immediate threat of impeachment amid a severe loss of investor confidence. She said the measures would “guarantee” Brazil’s political stability and improve relations between parties and pro-government MPs.

Analysts have described the moves as “symbolic”.
