Boston Marathon bombings investigators kill Florida man
May 23 , 2013
A Chechen immigrant living in Florida who turned violent while being questioned about the Boston Marathon bombings was shot dead by an FBI agent on Wednesday.
Ibragim Todashev, 27, of Orlando had previously lived in Boston.
The two brothers identified by the FBI as suspects in the April 15 bombings were also Chechens.
Three people were killed and 264 others were wounded during the blast at the finish line of the Boston Marathon.
The shooting occurred at an apartment complex where several people of Chechen descent lived.
Todashev and others had been questioned several times by law enforcement officials after the Tsarnaev brothers were identified as suspects.
In a statement, the FBI said that the agent was "acting on the imminent threat posed by the individual, responded with deadly force. The individual was killed and the special agent was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries."
Todashev knew bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev because both were martial-arts fighters but had no connection to the bombing, according to a friend.
Tamerlan, 26, was killed in a gunfight with police four days after the Boston bombing. His 19-year-old brother, Dzhokhar, was found hiding in a boat in Watertown, Massachusetts.
Dzhokhar has been charged with crimes that could carry the death penalty if convicted.
