Boost for Modi as BJP wins in Maharashtra, Haryana
October 20 , 2014
In a major boost for India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP has won key elections in Maharashtra and Haryana and is set to form the government in both states, media reports say.
The state polls were widely seen as Modi’s first significant popularity test after he led the BJP to power in the general election.
While the party won an outright majority in Haryana, it emerged as the single largest party in the financially important state of Maharashtra, winning 122 of the total 288 seats. Modi personally campaigned in both the states.
