Bomb Explosion at a Wedding Ceremony in Kabul Kills 63, Injures 180

  • 63 people are reportedly dead and 180 injured due to a bomb explosion at a wedding hall in Kabul, capital of Afghanistan. The extent of death toll was confirmed by the interior ministry of Afghanistan hours later. The Islamic State (IS) group has claimed responsibility of the attack. In a statement, the Islamic State said that it was a fedayeen attack where one of its members blew himself up in the midst of a large gathering. It went on to say that an explosive laden vehicle was detonated after the emergency services arrived at the spot. Reports say the explosion took place at around 22:40 local time (18.10 GMT). The Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has described the attack “barbaric” and went on to accuse Taliban for “providing a platform to terrorists.” Ironically, Taliban has also condemned the attack and denied any involvement in the explosion.
