Bolsonaro Wins First Round of Polls

  • The first round of presidential election of Brazil has been won by Jair Bolsonaro, the far-right candidate. Fernando Haddad, the left-wing Workers' Party candidate, will be his opponent in the second round which will take place on 28 October. Bolsonaro has stated that he would've won outright if there weren't any issues with the electronic voting system.

    After all the votes were counted, Mr. Haddad got 29% of the votes and Mr. Bolsonaro bagged 46% of the total. The opinion polls suggest that in the second round the two candidates will have a tie.
