Boko Haram controlled areas will be retaken in a month, says Nigerian President

  • President of Nigeria Goodluck Jonathan said the territory which was captured by Boko Haram will be retaken by the Nigerian armed forces within a month. The president admitted that the government’s response to the militant group’s advancement in northeast Nigeria has been slow; however, he highlighted the fact that Boko Haram has grown weaker. The Nigerian army, which is backed by Chad, Niger and Cameroon, has retaken many towns and villages which were under the control of the militant group. The government is under fire for not being able to end the insurgency.
