Boko Haram clash with army in Nigeria, hundreds killed
January 26 , 2015
Over 200 people are believed to have been killed in clashes between Nigerian troops and Boko Haram militants in Maiduguri city in the country’s north-east.
The Islamists reportedly went on a rampage, setting scores of village homes on fire, killing people and kidnapping women and children in Adamawa state.
The violence comes as John Kerry, the US secretary of state, visited Lagos. Kerry urged the country to hold elections, which are due next month, that are “credible, transparent and accountable.”
