Boat carrying 500 Rohingya Muslims rescued near Indonesia
May 11 , 2015
A boat with around 500 Rohingya Muslims on board, possibly heading to Malaysia, has been rescued near north Indonesia.
The migrants, including many women and children from Mynamar's minority community, were stranded near Indonesia's Aceh province, reports said.
Persecution of Rohingya Muslims and sectarian violence have triggered a mass exodus of the community from Myanmar in recent years. While a majority have fled from the Thai border, many have taken the sea route.
