Blasts kill two people in Xinjiang, China
September 22 , 2014
Chinese media has reported that two people have been killed and several others injured in a series of blasts in three locations in Luntai County in the Xinjiang region of China.
Tianshan, a local Chinese news portal, reported that the explosions occurred around 5 pm local time on Sunday, 21 September. The injured have been taken to local hospitals. Chinese authorities have indicated the perpetrators of the blast are Uighur separatists, who are instigated by external terrorist groups.
There have been repeated instances of unrest in Xinjiang province in China in recent times. Human rights activists, however, blame China’s repressive policies for fuelling unrest among the predominantly Muslim Uighur population of the Xinjiang region.
