June 12 , 2016
In a move that can resolve the long standing dispute between the Philippines and China over the territorial dispute in South China sea, the diplomats of Philippines have urged President-elect Rodrigo Duterte's government to initiate bilateral talks between the two countries to settle the dispute. This call for reconciliation came in the backdrop of China’s foreign ministries statement proposing to settle the dispute through bilateral talks. The tension between the two countries escalated after Philippines unilaterally initiated an arbitration case against China in International Tribunal in Hague.
