Bangladesh arrests more than 11,000 as a part of crackdown on extremism

  • As part of a crackdown on extremism, authorities in Bangladesh have arrested more than 11,000 people including 150 militants. Media reports quoted police as saying that during the four days of raids 145 suspected militants were arrested. The rest were detained on charges ranging from theft and drug dealing to violence. Police said that most of the suspected militants were members of the banned Islamist group Jama'atul Mujahedin Bangladesh.
