'Baby Doc' Duvalier, former Haitian dictator, dies
October 5 , 2014
Jean-Claude Duvalier, the former Haitian dictator, has died at the age of 63 following a heart attack.
In 1971, the 19-year-old Duvalier became “President for life” after his father and ruler Francois Duvalier died. This made “Baby Doc”, as he was called, one of the youngest heads of state in the world.
His rule was marked by several allegations of human rights abuses, and he fled the country in 1985 — only to return after a quarter of a century.
