Azerbaijan election results come out before election

  • People were supposed to begin voting for the next president of Azerbaijan yesterday but results of the election was instead posted a day before that.

A Central Election Commission smartphone app reported that Ilham Aliyev was winning with 73 percent of the votes; the results were taken off immediately and Aliyev received 85 percent of the votes when the actual voting began.

Runner-up Jamil Hasanli doesn't believe the voting was fair and said the election doesn't "reflect people's will. Many flaws in the process including "limitations on the freedoms of expression" have been cited by outside observers.

After this year's anti-corruption riots in Azerbaijan, officials said there now might be "post-election disorder."
