Ayatollah Khamenei undergoes 'routine' surgery
September 8 , 2014
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader, has undergone prostate surgery today (Monday) in a Tehran hospital, the country’s media has reported.
The official news agency described the procedure as "routine" and said it was successful.
The 75-year-old leader appeared briefly on state TV before the surgery, saying there was nothing to be concerned about, but urged people to pray for him.
In recent months, Khamenei has extended cautious support to the talks between Iran and world powers regarding the country’s nuclear program.
