Avalanche fears lead to change in Everest climbing route

  • The route used to climb Mount Everest is being changed amid worries of greater avalanche risks.

Last year, in one of the worst mountaineering accidents on the route to Everest, 16 climbers were killed in an avalanche. Nepal has said the current path, which is being used for the past few decades, will be changed in March.

The new route will avoid the area after the Base Camp that was hit by the 2014 avalanche.
