Australian PM Urges for Unity after Surviving Leadership Challenge

  • After having survived the leadership challenge from a senior government official, Malcolm Turnbull, the Australia Prime Minister has now appealed for the unity. In order to put an end to the speculations which suggested that his leadership was threatened, he called the vote himself. Winning by 48-35, he defeated the Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton. He later stated that “It's really important that we put our differences behind us and get on with the job of looking after Australians.”

During the last few days, his future in the party as a leader was seen to be unstable. He was facing conflict from conservative MPs regarding a policy pertaining to climate change. He was also under pressure for the lost poll in Queensland and a series of other polls with bad performance.
