Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop Resigns from new PM Scott Morrison's Cabinet

  • On Sunday, Foreign Minister of Australia Julie Bishop resigned from the cabinet of new Prime Minister Scott Morrison, just 2-days after a leadership battle toppled former PM Malcolm Turnbull. While resigning she announced moving to the “backbench as a strong voice for Western Australia” and went on to say that she hasn’t yet decided upon the upcoming May 2019 election. She was the Australian foreign minister since 2013. After her resignation, PM Morrison appointed former defense minister Marise Payne in the new Cabinet. Julie Bishop’s resignation is a significant move as Morrison’s government only has 1 seat majority in the Australian parliament.
