Australian Federal Police Arrests Person on Charges of being North Korean 'Economic Agent'

  • Australian Federal Police (AFP) has arrested a 59-year-old person named Chan Han Choi from Sydney on charges of acting as a North Korean economic agent. The charges levelled against him include illegal export brokering as well as discussing the supply of mass destruction. AFP has charged Choi (who is living in Australia for over 30 years) with 1995 Weapons of Mass Destruction (Prevention of Proliferation) Act. Police have reportedly said that they have evidence that the arrested person had direct contact with high ranking officials of North Korea. It has been alleged that Chan Han Choi brokered the sale of coal to groups in Vietnam and Indonesia from North Korea.
