Australia lures and kills its first shark
January 28 , 2014
The first shark has been shot and killed in Western Australia under a new policy, which aims at protecting swimmers.
A baited line attacked the large tiger shark, which was shot several times and dumped in the sea. Thousands of people are against the policy and environmentalist mentioned that the method is an inefficient way to reduce attacks.
"To think that we're wasting this opportunity to tag and to find out more about these creatures, that we're just going to slaughter them and dump them - it's just such a waste of life," a Sea Shepherd Conservation Society spokeswoman said.
However, Western Australia's premier said it's his responsibility to protect people and gets no pleasure out of seeing the creatures killed.
