Australia: Golf champion Peter Thomson dies

Australian Golf champion Peter Thomson, who had been suffering from Parkinson's disease for more than four years, died on Wednesday at his home in Melbourne. Thomson was a towering figure in sports in Australia. He was the first Australian who claimed the Open Championship in Britain in 1954. Thomson was the President of the Australian PGA for 32 years and also had great success on the American circuit.
