Australia announces Recognition of West Jerusalem as the Israeli Capital
December 15 , 2018
Australia has reversed its decades-long Middle East policy by recognizing West Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. However, Australian PM Scott Morrison said today that they’ll not move their embassy immediately. The move comes within a couple of months after Aussie PM announced in October 2018 that he’s open to shifting its embassy from Tel Aviv. He went on to say that they will move their embassy when practical. PM Morrison also said that his government still supports a two-state solution and recognizes East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine. Opposition Labor party leader Bill Shorten criticized the Morrison government’s decision and went on to say that he’ll reverse the decision if his party comes to power next year.
